The Modern Pompadour for Men 2018
For a style created by a French mistress – the pompadour originated from the hairstyle of Madame de Pompadour who was the chief mistress of a French king back in the 18th Century – the pompadour is a very versatile hairstyle that suits men of all ages.
Below are a few tips for those who want to make sure that their pompadour looks great.
The Right Hair Type
If your hair isn't at least 4-6cm in length at the fringe, with coverage everywhere else, then you might want to look at another hairstyle.
The pompadour is better suited for men with either straight hair, preferably with a lot of volume. Men with finer hair or those with thick and curly or even wavy hair can still achieve the look albeit with a slight variation.
The Right Haircut
For the perfect pompadour, make sure that your hair is at least 6cm long on the top and shorter on the sides - given recent trends, the shorter the sides, the better.
The Ideal Face Shape
The pompadour works well with just about any face shape, but it's best for those with wide jaw lines and high cheekbones. It's okay if you weren't blessed with such a face shape because it's nothing that a good stylist can’t fix.
For those with longer faces, it's recommended to add a bit more hair to the sides. For those whose faces are a bit on the round side, keeping the hair on the sides and back very short is the way to go.
Traditionally, pompadour has always been paired with a clean-shave, but beard loyalists have found a way to make it work in recent times.
For example, if your face is round and you have a slightly longer beard than usual, your pompadour's top length should be just as long as your beard to make your face appear longer.
