I have been in the beauty industry for 20 years with doing makeup for 12 years.. with Modeling as a first stepping stone. During modelling days i find myself more inclined and  attracted to the team behind the shoot rather than seeing myself on the print..

Then i started to fly for Singapore Airlines as a stewardess and that is where i learn more on grooming myself and started experimenting with colours and makeup.I left flying and learn makeup and was given the opportunity to do Fiddler On The Roof staged By Singapore Lyrics Opera where I met Director Roger Jenkins.

During this time i realized my love for makeup and theater. Roger Jenkins then invited me to join his theater Company as head of makeup.

I was given the opportunity to explore the endless boundaries of the world of makeup and  theater. I started designing makeup for the productions, Go to schools around Singapore to teach theater Makeup as part of the Outreach Programmes.

I then started doing hair as well and is Self taught in this area. I find doing both gives me more accurate interpretation of the characters and makeup that i have in mind.. I have since done many productions with some of my most recent – Magic Flute, Carmen, La Boheme, Salome and their posters too.

Then I ventured into bridal makeup which was also something exciting. Meeting new clients and advising them and understanding them helps me to make them look and feel good on their big day.I believe that makeup and hair should compliment their outfits but most importantly compliments their Personality.

About 1 year ago I started getting into Fashion and have done magazines – Style,Ish,Catalogue,The Rake Magazine just to name a few. Fashion shows for Ferragamo  Singapore , Paul Ropp and also Tron Premiere  and many others…

Linda Burton Makeup Artistry

I am a certified freelance makeup artist in the Greater New Haven CT area. I offer both traditional and airbrushed makeup for weddings, print, fashion shoots and film.

I have always been interested in all forms of art.  I am a singer, and I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and I have taken numerous drawing, painting, and pottery classes over the years.

After being sidetracked by “life”, I worked as a paralegal for many years until I realized that it was time to make a change.

I decided to attend Oxford Makeup Academy in Connecticut to become a certified makeup artist.  I gave up my job at the law firm to become a freelance makeup artist, and it is a decision that I haven’t regretted for one minute. I absolutely love it!

I enjoy the diverse range of projects that I have had the opportunity to be part of, and whether collaborating with a team, or working closely with an individual, I am committed l to creating the perfect look for the occasion, whether it is classic or glamorous, or cutting edge.

The artist in me still wants expand my creativity, so I am currently taking body painting classes, and will always continue experimenting and learning. I am available for weddings, fashion shoots, print, and film projects.

Sofiya Adalieva

Sofiya Adalieva is a professional, experienced and published model.

She is young, ambitious and very creative young woman with European (Bulgarian) background who is based in Vancouver, Canada.

Shortly after she made her first steps like a model, she had the chance to work with wonderful professionals thanks to whom she created a strong portfolio which revealed her potential.

She participated in music videos, numerous photoshoots internationally among which is her latest accomplishment- a cover of a Bulgarian Magazine www.bela.bg for August 2011.

She is looking for new challenges and opportunities in modeling world including advertisement campaigns, catalogues, publications and etc.

She continues to pursue her goals and to develop her talent.

Makeup Artist Chinita

Chinita  is a professional makeup artist and Esthetician/Nail Technician with extensive experience in commercial print and television.

Her experience includes fashion catalogs and fashion commercials. Originally from New York, Chinita moved to Toronto as an adolescent.

She clearly defines the  saying: You can take the girl out of the fashion capital but you can’t  take the fashion out of the girl.

A graduate of Professional Makeup Artistry course &  Esthetics course.  Chinita is also a certified Trainer/Teacher of Adult Education.

Chinita has continued to develop and refine her makeup and esthetic skills with classes and annual workshops for Makeup Artist and Esthetician Career professionals.

Chinita continues to enjoy learning and teaching about her passion and profession, and is always  finding more ways to bring her creative vision to the forefront. Chinita strongly believes that beauty is diversified.

Makeup is an essential feature of film and television shows today, but it is important to remember the roots of stage makeup – the theatre. It is this that first got me interested in becoming a Makeup Artist. Here is a short history lesson on the beginnings of stage makeup.

Europe:
In Greek and Roman theatre, makeup was unnecessary as actors wore various masks, allowing them to portray another gender, age, or entirely different likeness. The first form of stage makeup consisted of white lead (which we now know to be completely toxic) to paint the face white, or red wine to paint the face red. In medieval times, performers who portrayed God painted their faces white or gold; actors playing angels painted their faces red. During the Renaissance period, actors were creative and resourceful when making-over their faces. They used lamb’s wool for false beards and flour as face paint. These were fine a technique when low lighting was used (such as candles, and oil lamps), however, advances in stage lighting technology required stage makeup to evolve. Crude makeup applications were no longer acceptable, and a finer craft was born. Once gas and electric light were introduced to theatres, a need emerged for new makeup materials and more skillful application techniques. In 1873, Ludwig Leichner, an opera singer, began commercially producing a non-toxic greasepaint stick, easing the application of makeup.

Japan:
A fascinating form of theatre known as Kabuki originated in Japan in the 1600’s. The term Kabuki can be interpreted as “Avante-garde” or “bizarre” theatre. Kabuki theatre is known for the stylization of its drama and for the elaborate make up worn by its performers. The actors refer to the application of make up as kao o tsukuru – making a face. The action of applying make-up is considered very much a part of the preparation psychologically for a performance. In Kabuki Makeup, the highly stylized makeup patterns symbolize the character being portrayed. There are several styles of keshou (makeup)for males and female roles and many different shapes of lip and eyebrow styles each with their own name. The base colour for most styles of make up is the white oshiroi. Made from rice powder, on the onnagata it symbolized delicate skin. It may have had its origins in the attempt to illuminate the face of the actors because of the poor light in the theatres. The most distinctive make-up style, and that most frequently associated with kabuki is kumadori.
Chinese theatre also has kumadori, however it tends to create a mask irrespective of facial structure. In kabuki, the bold lines of colour highlight the eyes cheekbones and jawline which help to emphasize the emotional responsiveness of the character (often anger). It also gave some support to the character portrayal of the actor who would have to maintain a particular facial expression for long periods of time. The style of make-up is standardized for each role.

It is important to remain in tune with Makeup-artistry’s past, as well as continue to draw inspiration from various cultures.

I am a freelance makeup artist based out of San Diego, California. I attended beauty school in 2002 and received my cosmetology license in St. Louis, Missouri (where I am from).

My first passion was always makeup artistry however I chose to specialize in hair color after school because there was more of a market for hair colorists in St. Louis, Missouri. I worked at Dominic Michael Salon as a colorist and makeup artist while forming long lasting relationships with a few photographers along the way.

Fast forward to 2010, my fiance Greg received a job opportunity in the San Diego area and two months later we packed our stuff and made the 1,500 mile move. Given all of the new things happening in my life it was at that point that I chose to focus on makeup artistry %100 and began freelancing.

I already had experience with makeup for weddings, print, television and commercial assignments thanks to my connections and network in the salon industry in St. Louis, so California was the next big step for me to take.

My niche is ultimately clean beauty makeup however I am experienced in more advanced makeup applications as well. I am inspired by makeup artists Way Bandy and Kevyn Aucoin. I too aspire to create beautiful makeup that is customized to each persons features. I spend the most time on evening out the skin and creating the “perfect” face by using shading and highlighting techniques.

I am currently working with a few agencies and testing when I’m able to, I’m a perfectionist so I’m constantly striving to perfect and find more efficient ways of doing something.

She brings over 7 years to the makeup industry and her experience ranges from Bridal, Beauty, and Runway makeup applications.

Tanaya J work has been featured on several bridal shows including, “Wedding In-law Wars in Canada. She has also worked with various Gospel music industry artists & models.

Tanaya J brings an inspired and eclectic approach to the artistry and prides herself on being able to appreciate the face as a canvas.

Our lives are busy, hectic, even crazy at times. You might feel like the faster you go, the more you can get accomplished, but it might be time to slow down and breathe a little bit. You have already heard that high stress levels negatively impact the body and mind, but did you know that high stress is a huge beauty buster?

Lack of sleep: The day is finally done, but your mind won’t stop racing. Lying awake at night thinking about everything that needs to get done tomorrow is not productive. You will only be exhausted in the morning and fall further behind on your list. We have all woken up in the morning and looked in the mirror, only to find disheartening dark, puffy bags under the eyes, a sallow complexion and bloodshot eyeballs.

Skin problems: Those with eczema and rosacea will notice excessive flare-ups during times of high stress. Rashes can appear in unlikely areas, and can be quite itchy and painful. Another skin problem that accompanies high stress is acne (as everyone knows all too well).

Hair: The excessive levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) that is released into the bloodstream during times of high stress can lead to hair loss. Most hair loss is natural, but high stress can lead to premature patches of hair falling out. Another common occurrence is early graying/whitening of the hair.

While those mentioned above are found on the surface, it is important to remember that prolonged stress negatively impacts our vital organs and nervous system. The “fight or flight” response system within our bodies kicks off our sympathetic nervous system as soon as we encounter a potentially dangerous situation. The sympathetic nervous system causes a cease in digestion, an increased heart rate, dilation of the bronchial tubes in the lungs, and tension in the muscles (preparing them to fight or flight).

In a primal setting, such as encountering a bear or being attacked, the effects the sympathetic nervous system has on the body is quite useful, and enables us to survive. The fight or flight response preps the body to do just that, either fight or flight. Once these actions have been taken, the parasympathetic nervous system takes over and returns the body to a normal state. The problem arises with modern society – rarely do we encounter situations that enable us to fight or run away. For example, if you are having problems at work with your boss, it is probably highly inappropriate to engage in a fistfight with your boss, and it may not be a possibility to quit. Nevertheless, the stress from work engages the fight or flight response – but it remains unused. The body can stay in this primed state for as long as you let it. Over time, the tensed muscles and organs begin to wear down much faster than natural, causing disease and pain. This internal malaise leads to sickness and exhaustion, which is a health concern in itself – but from a beauty perspective: illness is just not beautiful!

Take time everyday to breathe, to slow down your sympathetic nervous system. Relax: meditate; do yoga, go for a run, whatever works for you!
